Spandau Ballet is an English pop and new wave band that rose to fame in the early 1980s. The group formed in 1979, when five school friends – Gary Kemp and his brother Martin, Steve Norman, John Keeble, and Tony Hadley – decided to form a band. They took their name from a graffiti tag seen on a wall near their rehearsal room in North London.
The group’s debut single ‘To Cut A Long Story Short’ was released in 1980 and reached number five in the UK charts.
