Does China Have Ballet?

China has a rich history in the performing arts and dance, with the country’s numerous traditional dance forms such as Peking Opera, Dragon Dance, and Chinese folk dance. However, one form of dance that has historically been absent from China is ballet.

The origins of ballet can be traced back to the Renaissance period in Italy and France when courtly dances were used to entertain aristocrats.
