Princeton University offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, including dance. While Princeton does not have an official ballet company, there is a vibrant and active dance community available to students. The Department of Music and the Lewis Center for the Arts both offer classes in ballet technique and choreography, as well as opportunities to participate in performance pieces that draw on the many different forms of dance found within Princeton’s student body.

The Dance Department at Princeton is expansive and diverse. Students are able to take classes in classical ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap, hip-hop, and improvisation.

These include Ballet Folklórico de Princeton (BFP), a Mexican folkloric group; Tango @ Princeton; Tigerlilies Tap Ensemble; and many more. These groups offer students an opportunity to hone their skills while performing for audiences both on campus and around New Jersey.

The Dance Department also hosts several performances each year that feature student choreographers and performers from across disciplines. These performances showcase works created by students who explore their own unique visions of movement through contemporary works or adaptations from classic repertoire.
