Ballet

Spandau Ballet is an iconic British pop band that rose to fame in the 1980s. The band is known for their hits “True”, “Gold” and “Through the Barricades”, which have become timeless classics. They are one of the most successful British bands of all time, having sold over 25 million records worldwide.

The band was formed in 1979 by bassist Martin Kemp and guitarist Gary Kemp, who were brothers. They were soon joined by singer Tony Hadley, drummer John Keeble and saxophonist Steve Norman.

The group released their debut album Journeys to Glory in 1981 and went on to have huge success with their subsequent albums Diamond and True. Their most successful single was “True” which reached number one on both sides of the Atlantic in 1983.

After a few years of touring and recording, the group went into hiatus in 1990 before finally splitting up in 1999 after a bitter legal dispute between Gary and Martin Kemp over royalties from their songs.

Since then, each member has pursued their own projects with varying levels of success. Tony Hadley has released several solo albums while John Keeble has toured with a variety of bands including Queen + Paul Rodgers and Duran Duran. Martin Kemp has gone into acting while Gary has found success as a songwriter for other artists such as Robbie Williams.

In 2009, the members reunited for a series of live shows that included performances at Glastonbury Festival and Live 8 London before embarking on an arena tour around Europe in 2011. Since then, they have continued to tour regularly across Europe as well as making appearances at major music festivals such as Montreux Jazz Festival, Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival.
