Is There a Movie Theater in Astoria Oregon?

Situated on the banks of the Columbia River, Astoria, Oregon is a small town with a population of just over 9,500. It is known for its historic buildings and scenic views, as well as its proximity to the Pacific Ocean.

Despite its small size, Astoria has an abundance of attractions for visitors to enjoy, including museums, art galleries, restaurants, and shopping centers. But one thing that it does not have is a movie theater.

For many years there was a movie theater in Astoria called The Liberty Theater. Opened in 1914, it was one of the first theaters in Oregon and featured silent films until sound films were introduced in 1929.

The Liberty Theater showed films until it closed in 1991 due to financial difficulties. Since then there has not been another movie theater open in Astoria.

For those looking for a movie night out in Astoria, their closest options are currently located in neighboring towns such as Warrenton (9 miles away) or Seaside (20 miles away). Both of these towns have multiplex theaters that show new releases as well as classic films and independent movies. There are also several drive-in theaters located within an hour’s drive from Astoria.

Astoria has been trying to bring back a movie theater since the closure of The Liberty Theater more than 25 years ago. Unfortunately the efforts have not been successful so far due to financial constraints and lack of available space within the city limits. However there are still some people who are hopeful that one day they will be able to watch films on the big screen again in Astoria.

Conclusion:

So unfortunately there is no movie theater currently open in Astoria Oregon. However visitors to the area can still find plenty of other entertainment options such as museums and art galleries or take a drive out to neighboring towns where they can find multiplex theaters and drive-in theaters offering new releases and classic films. There is still hope that one day Astoria will get its own movie theater again but for now visitors will need to look elsewhere if they want to catch a flick.
