The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) has recently been in the news for hosting a historic event. On October 28, 2019, the DMA was the venue for a groundbreaking ceremony that marked the start of a new project. This project is an ambitious collaboration between the Museum and The Nasher Sculpture Center, which is also located in Dallas.

The two organizations are joining forces to create an innovative new cultural experience: a permanent exhibition space dedicated to contemporary sculpture. The space will be known as “The Nasher at the Dallas Museum of Art” and will display the works of both modern and contemporary sculptors.

The ceremony featured speeches from both institutions’ directors and began with a performance from students from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. The event was attended by over 500 guests including local politicians, business leaders, artists, educators, museum staff and supporters of both organizations.

The Nasher at the DMA will open its doors in 2021 with an inaugural exhibition showcasing works from leading contemporary sculptors such as Richard Serra, Ai Weiwei, Louise Bourgeois and many more. In addition to its permanent collection of sculptures, it will also host temporary exhibitions devoted to different sculptural practices from around the world.

This unprecedented collaboration between two major art institutions is expected to bring together people from all walks of life to share their appreciation for sculpture in all its forms. It will also help promote Dallas’ unique cultural heritage while providing educational opportunities for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.

The groundbreaking ceremony was truly a momentous occasion that marked the start of what promises to be an exciting journey into sculpture’s past, present and future at the Dallas Museum of Art.What Happened at the Dallas Museum of Art?
