Ballet Coppélia is a classic ballet that is beloved by audiences all over the world. It was first performed in Paris in 1870 and is considered to be one of the most popular ballets of all time.
The story follows Swanhilda, a young woman who falls in love with Franz, a man of her village. Unfortunately for Swanhilda, Franz has been enchanted by the mysterious Dr. Coppelius, whose doll he believes to be a real girl.

Act 1
The first act takes place in Dr. Coppelius’s workshop as he shows off his creation of Coppélia, much to the delight of the villagers who have gathered around him. Swanhilda soon discovers that Franz is entranced by the doll and decides on her plan of pretending to be the doll come alive. She successfully fools Dr. Coppelius into believing she is indeed his creation and manages to get what she came for – an engagement ring from Franz for herself!
Act 2
The second act takes place at Swanhilda’s village where all of her friends have gathered for a festive celebration in honor of her engagement with Franz. The party is soon interrupted by Dr. Coppelius who has come looking for his beloved “daughter” and finds out that Swanhilda has been impersonating her all along! To make matters worse, Franz still believes that he is engaged to the doll and not to Swanhilda!
Act 3
In the third act, everyone gathers around once again as Dr. Coppelius attempts to put an end to this madness by bringing his doll back to life with magic potions and spells. However, it turns out that these potions only make things worse as they end up making everyone fall asleep! Finally, after much confusion, chaos and sorcery – Swanhilda manages to save everyone from their slumber with a kiss from true love – which turns out to be from none other than herself!
