When Did AMC Movie Theater Close?

AMC movie theaters have been a staple of the American cinema experience for over a century. Although theaters have been around for many years, it wasn’t until April 2020 that AMC announced it would temporarily close all of its locations due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Originally founded in 1920 by Maurice, Edward and Barney Dubinsky, the company quickly grew to become the largest movie theater chain in the United States. By 2010, AMC had more than 5,000 screens in 344 locations across North America with attendance reaching an all-time high of nearly 200 million patrons in 2017.

The sudden closure of AMC theaters was a big blow to the movie industry as it had become a regular outlet for film releases and promotion. Theaters were also an important source of entertainment for people looking to get out of their homes and enjoy a night out with friends or family.

In order to make up for lost revenue during the pandemic, AMC launched an at-home streaming service called “AMC Theatres On Demand” which allowed users to rent or purchase movies from their home. This allowed them to continue offering their patrons access to new releases while also supporting their industry partners including studios and distributors who rely on theatrical releases for success.

At the end of May 2020, AMC began slowly reopening some locations based on local guidelines and restrictions; however, many remain closed due to COVID-19 cases continuing to rise throughout North America. It is unclear when these theaters will be able to begin operating again at full capacity but it is certain that safety precautions will be in place once they do reopen.

In conclusion, although AMC movie theaters closed due to COVID-19 in April 2020, they are slowly reopening some locations as safety guidelines allow. Until then, customers can use their streaming service “AMC Theatres On Demand” or wait until they can safely return and enjoy a night out at one of their favorite theatres once again.
