The American Ballet Theatre (ABT) is one of the most prestigious and respected ballet companies in the world. It was founded in 1939, and has been a fixture on the New York City ballet scene ever since. ABT is renowned for its technically demanding and often daring repertoire, which ranges from classic ballets such as Swan Lake to contemporary works by choreographers like Twyla Tharp.

The company is based in New York City at the Metropolitan Opera House in Lincoln Center. This iconic building has been home to ABT since 1964, when it moved from its original location at the Adelphi Theatre on Broadway. At the Met, ABT is able to bring its performances to life with a state-of-the-art stage and lighting system, as well as a first-rate orchestra pit that can accommodate up to 90 musicians.

ABT also has two studios located in Manhattan: one in the Chelsea neighborhood, and the other at City Center in Midtown. The Chelsea studio serves as a rehearsal space for ABT’s company members, while City Center is used for performances of special productions such as “Ballet Masterworks” and “Emerging Choreographers” programs. The company also maintains an office at Lincoln Center for administrative purposes.

In addition to performing at its home base in New York City, ABT regularly tours throughout the United States and abroad. Recent tours have included visits to Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and New Zealand.

ABT strives to maintain an international presence while providing world-class entertainment to audiences around the globe. Its commitment to excellence has earned it numerous awards including three Tony Awards for outstanding achievement in dance theater; two Emmy Awards; two Obie Awards; the Kennedy Center Honors; and multiple Dance Magazine Awards.

ABT continues to be one of America’s premier ballet companies – an organization where artists come together to create art that moves people around the world. With its commitment to quality performance and dedication to pushing boundaries within the art form, there’s no doubt that ABT will continue inspiring audiences for years to come.
