World Ballet Day is an annual event created to celebrate the art of ballet and to share the beauty of the art form with viewers around the world. The event was created by the Royal Opera House, London, in 2013, in collaboration with its partner theatres: The Australian Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada and San Francisco Ballet.

The day-long celebration takes place each year on October 2nd and offers a unique opportunity to experience behind-the-scenes glimpses into the lives of professional ballet dancers, featuring live interviews with dancers and choreographers from around the world.

This year’s World Ballet Day featured a series of interactive workshops from leading choreographers includingy Wayne McGregor CBE and Christopher Wheeldon CBE. It also included a live performance from acclaimed Australian ballerina Amber Scott who performed a solo piece inspired by her time as a student at The Australian Ballet School.

The day was also filled with discussion panels which explored topics ranging from body image issues in ballet to creating opportunities for young people in dance. Alongside this, there were opportunities for people to ask questions about their own dance training or career aspirations via social media using #WorldBalletDay.
