Gelsey Kirkland (born 1952) is an American dancer who rose to prominence at New York City Ballet in 1970s under George Balanchine’s direction. She was renowned for her exquisite technique which she used to bring passion and emotion to her performances, making them truly captivating to watch. Kirkland retired from classical ballet but continued performing contemporary works until recently.
