Classical Art
In ancient Greece and Rome, we see the emergence of more representational art forms such as sculpture and painting. These works often depicted gods or heroes from mythology or everyday scenes from life at the time. Artists like Phidias and Praxiteles are known for their iconic sculptures of gods like Zeus or Athena.

Medieval Art
During the Middle Ages, art was mainly religious in nature. It focused on depicting religious stories or figures such as Jesus Christ or the saints in illuminated manuscripts or stained glass windows. Gothic cathedrals were also constructed during this period, with intricate sculptures and carvings decorating their walls and ceilings.

Renaissance Art
The Renaissance period saw a shift away from religious themes towards more secular subjects such as portraiture and landscape painting. Artists like Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Botticelli created some of their most iconic works during this time period, which would go on to inspire countless other artists throughout history.

Baroque Art
In the 17th century, Baroque art emerged as a way to express emotion through exaggerated gestures and movement. Painters like Caravaggio used intense lighting effects to create dramatic scenes while sculptors like Bernini crafted intricate marble sculptures that showcased motion through twisting figures and dynamic poses.

Modern Art

The 19th century saw a surge in innovation with Impressionism being one of the primary movements during this time period.

This style focused on capturing fleeting moments using quick brush strokes to create an overall impression rather than realistic details. Later movements such as Cubism further pushed boundaries by fragmenting objects into geometric shapes.
